Obon Info

Obon Video Submission Instructions:

Join with us in dancing an obon dance led by Reiko Iwanaga aka Hanayagi Reimichi.  Video submissions will be featured in our “NextGen Geijutsuka: Future Stars of Japanese Cultural Arts” online concert series on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at 8pm (PST).  You may view the performance through our facebook page here. Many Obon festivals are cancelled this year, so this is your chance to dance from your home!

Record yourself dancing on your smartphone or similar device, VERTICALLY (portrait mode).  You may use any fan, design/fold your own, or use no fan at all.  Just follow the 4 easy dance moves demonstrated and choreographed by Reiko Iwanaga in the video below.

The music used will be “Niji”, or “Rainbow” composed by Shirley Kazuyo Muramoto and Ben Paderna. This recording will be performed by Shirley Kazuyo Muramoto, Brian Mitsuhiro Wong, Joe Guzman, Thomas DeVar Yarbrough  & Lily Belle Aiko Takashima Yarbrough and can be found below.

These videos will be used in a group dance video.

Please upload your video by 10pm (PST) on Wednesday, July 22, 2020 into our Dropbox here.
